Apparatus

The Clinton Volunteer Fire Department is located in Southern Prince George’s County, Maryland, approximately 15 miles south of the District of Columbia. The Department was formed in 1936 and is one of the most recognizable fire departments in the nation, due in part to it’s impressive and innovative apparatus designs and its unwavering commitment to its community.

Since 1976 the department has been designing their apparatus to deliver BIG WATER, starting with the uniquely designed “One of a Kind” Kenworth/Pierce 2000 gpm pumper. In the 1980’s the department broke the apparatus design mold when the members helped design Engine 251, a 1986 Pierce Lance 2000 gpm pumper which incorporates a uniquely designed pump panel on the drivers side as well as the rear of the pumper. This pumper is designed to stay on the fire ground and take the large volumes of water from our other high capacity pumpers and supply water to the fire ground for both interior and exterior operations.

In 1989, two new pieces were added to the frontline for the Clinton VFD, a 1989 Pierce Lance tractor drawn 100-foot ladder truck, and another 2000 gpm Pierce Lance pumper, which was designated as Engine 254 . This impressive line of front line pumpers all carried 5″ large diameter hose along with the necessary adaptors to deliver high volumes of water all over the Baltimore/Washington Metropolitan Area.

In the 1990’s the benefits of the large diameter hose and high capacity pumpers were recognized, as Prince Georges County formally designated the Clinton VFD as Water Supply Company 25. The running assignments were modified so the Water Supply Company was dispatched on all second alarms fires in the county, and on all calls where no municipal water supply was readily available.

The newest frontline pumper at Clinton is Engine 251 a 2007 Pierce Dash with a 2000 gpm dual stage Hale pump. Engine 255 rotates as the frontline, first out the door pumper with Engine 251. In addition to our frontline pumpers, we also operate a support unit which carries 2000′ of 5″ hose, four 6″ stortz hard sleeves and various adaptors.
